The Turkish Van is well adapted to temperature extremes, with a very long, thick coat and mane during winter that sheds leaving only a short coat in the summer. Turkish Vans are indigenous to eastern Turkey. Turkish Vans were first brought to Europe by soldiers returning from the Crusades. The most traditional coloring for a Turkish Van is red and white.
